Easy and Simple DIY Body Care Recipes

2-Step, 2-Ingredient Formulas for Natural, DIY Body Care

Conventional body care products like body washes, moisturizers and scented body sprays usually contain dozens of ingredients, many that function only to stabilize, dye, preserve and artificially fragrance the product. A lot of these ingredients care for the formula while it sits on the shelf and do little to care for your body when you ultimately (and repeatedly) apply it to your skin.

Your own freshly made, as you need it, two-ingredient formula of essential oils in a carrier liquid will perform the same basic duties as most of these products. Become your own two-ingredient, two-step natural body care formulator and eliminate all of the superfluous ingredients that you don’t need to pay for, apply to your skin or rinse into the environment.

Oil Based Liquid Soap + Essential Oil = Body Wash, Shampoo, Shaving Soap

One two-ingredient body wash can do it all. Oil-based liquid (castile type) soaps such as Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild are non-harsh and widely adaptable to cover cleansing, shampooing and even shaving.

  • 1/2 cup liquid soap
  • 24 drops essential oil or blend

Directions: Mix oils into soap and place into a bottle. Customize your blend by adding 1/4 cup herbal infusion, green tea, aloe extract or floral water.

Carrier Oil + Essential Oil = Bath Oil, Body Oil Moisturizer, Massage Oil, Hair Treatment, Personal Essence

One two-ingredient, oil-based moisturizer can do it all. Nut and seed oils range from light and sheer (rosehip seed or jojoba) to rich and deeply emollient (macadamia nut or sweet almond).

  • 1/2 carrier oil
  • 24 drops essential oil or blend

Directions: Mix oils and place in bottle.

Moisturizer: Apply to damp skin after cleansing then pat dry.
Massage: Use 1 to 2 tablespoons as a massage oil.
Bath: Add 1/4 cup to bath.
Hair Treatment: Massage 1 to 3 teaspoons into hair and scalp, then comb through locks and wrap in a hot towel until cool.
Personal Fragrance: Dab behind ears and on pulse points as a perfume oil.

Personal Essence:

Pure Water + Essential Oil = Body Spray

One two-ingredient spray refreshes, hydrates and scents skin.

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 24 drops essential oil or blend

Directions: Mix oils and water and place in a spray mister bottle. Shake vigorously before misting the skin. Customize your blend by adding 1/4 cup witch hazel extract, aloe extract or floral water.
