Daily Prompt: State of Your Year
by michelle w. on July 29, 2013
Write up a mid-year “State of My Year” post.
January: I don’t remember much about January. My paternal grandmother, my mom, and my baby girl all had birthday’s. Other than that, it was a pretty quiet month.
February: My oldest granddaughter had a birthday.
March: Two more of my granddaughter’s had birthday’s.
April: I participated in the April A to Z Blogging Challenge, wrote several short stories, and met other writer’s participating, also.
May: I had a birthday.
June: My oldest grandson had a birthday. Toward the end of the month, my mom passed out while standing on her porch, fell over into her flower bed, and lay there while it rained, thundered, and lightened. It was close to an hour before one of her neighbors noticed her. She called 911 and they sent the local rescue squad out, resulting in her laying there for another hour before the ambulance finally arrived. She was in the hospital for nearly a week. Luckily she didn’t have any broken bones, but she was battered black and blue from her head to her toes. The main thing of concern was that she couldn’t remember the fall. They did a lot of tests, x-rays, blood work, and mri’s. She did have some blockage in her left carotid artery. They are currently just watching that and have put her on some blood thinner medication. We did get her a life alert this time.
July: During the first couple of weeks, we were still getting mom settled. Our daughter, her husband, and our oldest grandson came down from Kentucky to visit with us for the 4th. Mom and dad went back to Kentucky to work and our 5 year old grandson stayed with us another 2 weeks. We had a fun time, but I was still tired and completely off my regular routine.
On top of all that, my youngest daughter kept trying to go into labor a month early. We sat on pens and needles, wondering and worrying about her and our then unborn grandson. She finally did go into labor, two weeks early. It was a long, hard labor, but she and her son are fine.
My dad and another granddaughter had birthday’s this month.
So, all in all, my year started out quiet and peeked with excitement mid-month. I hope things slow down and let quiet reign throughout the rest of this year.

Geesh! I hope they slow down a bit too – that’s amazing that your mom didn;t wake up from the rain.

She did, but she couldn’t move to get herself out of it. I think she was in shock.

Wow. You have an impressive sidebar – I must explore. Glad your Mom didn’t break any bones. Life Alert is an amazing service; it gave my grandmother and us a great sense of security.

Yes. It was terrifying to think of her laying out there all by herself, powerless to move or cry out. I feel much better now that she can alert someone.
