The Affair by D. B. Mauldin

Diane drove toward her lover’s home. He stood in the door, waiting for her. Their affair had lasted more than ten years. He drove a truck and only came home three to four days every other month or so. He always let Diane know when he was home.
Diane worked third shift, which made it perfect, with her husband at work and her children at school. She had plenty of time to spend a leisurely day with her lover.
Most everybody knew about the affair. Diane’s love for him showed inside and out. She knew when her children grew up, she would leave with him, but he vanished without her.
