Combava Petitgrain Essential Oil

Citrus hystrix

Combava Petitgrain Essential Oil

Parts Used

Leaf and twig

Extraction Method

Steam distilled

Note Classification

Top to middle

Aroma

Soft thick citrus, with dry wood back notes. Very strong.

Overview

Makrut lime is a citrus bush that has a distinctive ‘double’ leaf that has a petiole that is almost as large as the leaf blade itself. It bears rough and bumpy fruit that is usually used green, but turns yellow when fully ripe. All parts of the fruit and the leaves are used in many culinary and medicinal preparations around the world.

The essential oil distilled from the leaf and twig has a strong, long-lasting aroma, which could be considered a lovely mix of lemongrass and petitgrain. The aroma can be overpowering in a blend, so use with caution. It is a very uplifting addition to room sprays, air freshening diffuser blends, and bug repellant formulas.

Packaging

1/2 oz. and 1 oz. essential oils are packaged in amber glass bottles with drop reducers for easy application. Larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.

Constituents

The major constituent is the aldehyde citronellal, which leads to some of the notable properties in the oil. With anywhere from 58-82% citronellal, combava has a higher content of this constituent than citronella oil.

Blends Well With

Benzoin, bergamot, cedarwood, clary sage, cypress, douglas fir (and other needle oils), frankincense, geranium, myrrh, rose, sandalwood.

Herbal Miscellany

Makrut lime leaves are best known for their use in the culinary world for their aromatic and astringent flavor.

Precautions

Oil Specific: Avoid while pregnant. May cause skin irritation.
General: As with all essential oils, never use them undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner. Keep away from children.
