Spring Cleaning – Part 2

Spring Cleaning – Part 2

Today we are going to talk about Tea Tree Essential Oil. It is truly an ‘essential’ for the household when it comes to ‘spring cleaning’ and a good essential oil to have on hand year round.

Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Tea Tree Essential Oil Organic (1/3 oz)

Tea Tree Essential Oil is antiseptic, anti-infectious, and antiviral. It is fungicidal and acts as a parasiticide. Tea Tree Essential Oil has a medicinal aroma that will leave your home smelling fresh and clean. It fights bacteria and mildew safely and naturally.

Try Tea Tree Essential Oil as a toilet bowl cleanser. Mix together: 1/2 cup Baking Soda, 1/2 cup Distilled White Vinegar, and 10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil. Pour this mixture into your toilet bowl and leave for 10-15 minutes. Then use a toilet brush to scrub bowl and flush.

Tea Tree Essential Oil can also be added to a tub and tile scrub mixture. Using a funnel, pour 2 teaspoon Borax, 1/2 teaspoon Liquid Castille Soap, 1/2 cup Distilled White Vinegar, 30 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil, and 3 cups Hot Water into a spray bottle. Shake well to mix. Put on your gloves, spray surface to be cleansed, and scrub with a sponge. When finished, rinse with hot water. Step back, sniff, and enjoy your fresh, clean bathroom.

Another use for Tea Tree Essential Oil is in your mop water. In a 2 gallon bucket, mix: 1 cup Distilled White Vinegar, 2 teaspoons Liquid Castille Soap, 10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil, 1 gallon hot water. Mop your floors as usual. No need to rinse, just let it air-dry.

You can add other Essential Oils to this mixture for different aromas: Grapefruit, Lemon, or White Thyme. All three contain antibacterial properties. Just add 10 drops of your chosen Essential Oil to the mixture above. We will discuss some of these Essential Oils further in later blogs.

Place 6-8 drops of Tea Tree Essential oil to a cotton ball and place these anywhere in the home that mold and mildew are prone to grow.

Happy Spring Cleaning!

Spring Cleaning – Part 1

Spring Cleaning – Part 1

Spring has sprung and many thoughts are turning to ‘Spring Cleaning’. Remember, you don’t have to go out and buy a lot of harsh chemical cleaning supplies. You can thoroughly clean and disinfect your home using natural ingredients.

Let’s start with a list of items you will need or may already have on hand.

You will need: Baking soda, Borax, Liquid Castile Soap, Distilled white Vinegar, and rubber gloves.

Essential Oils you will need, or may already have on hand, include: Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Tea Tree, and White Thyme.

For the purpose of this article, we are going to focus on the antifungal and antibacterial properties of essential oils, as well as cleaning recipes and uses.

Grapefruit (Citris paradisi)

Grapefruit Essential Oil Organic (1/3 oz)

Grapefruit Essential Oil acts as an antiseptic and contains anti-infectious properties. It disinfects and leaves a fresh, warm citrus aroma that will uplift everyone in the home.

Try it in your dishwasher for shiny, clean, and disinfected glassware and silverware:

2 cups Baking Soda

2 cups Borax

25 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil

Put on your gloves, add ingredients together in a bowl, stir with your hands to mix, making sure there are no clumps. Place this mixture in a plastic container. Use 2 Tablespoons mixture per wash.

Try it in your dryer. Simply place 2-4 drops, (depending on load size), Grapefruit Essential Oil to a clean cloth and add the cloth to your laundry in the dryer. Your clothes will carry an uplifting aroma throughout your day.

Another way to incorporate Grapefruit Essential Oil into your ‘Spring Cleaning’ is to place 4-6 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil onto a cotton ball and strategically place the cotton balls throughout your home; closets, drawers, cabinets, etc…

Happy Spring Cleaning!

Spring Equinox/Ostara March 20, 2017

Spring Equinox/Ostara March 20, 2017

Spring Equinox/Ostara March 20, 2017

In the Northern Hemisphere, we mark the Spring Equinox also known as Ostara on Monday, March 20, 2017, at exactly 6:29 A.M. EDT.

“Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!” — Sitting Bull

Spring has finally arrived! March has roared in like a lion, and if we’re really lucky, it will roll out like a lamb. It’s the time of the vernal equinox if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, and it’s a true marker that Spring has come.

The Wheel of the Year – Occurs on or near the Spring Equinox, when day and night are equal. It is a time of balance where unnecessary things, thoughts and habits are thrown away to make room for the new.

Other names for the Spring Equinox are Alban Eilir, Gwyl Canol Gwenwynol, Lady Day, and Ostara. The feel-good factor about this day, however, is that the first official astrological day of spring hints that high temperatures are not far off.

As the winter ends traditionally Native American people celebrate their thanks with prayers for surviving the bitter, cold days and the struggles they had to overcome. With spring everyone begins to enjoy the bounties of the earth once more, as plants and animals show new life again. The land turns green, wildlife flourishes and people are filled with anticipation for the coming of summer, the time of harvest.

It’s important to remember that the dawning of spring has been observed for a long time in many other cultures as well. Traditions vary widely from one country to the next.  March 20 also welcomes Ostara which is celebrated in spring season as a way to honor the richness and wealth that Mother Nature has brought to humans and creatures. Spring is considered as the period of growth, happiness and love. In this time of a year, everything is woken up from winter and they are full of vitality.

Springtime is a wonderful season to celebrate with much merriment and shared feasts, as families gather together, dancing and enjoying the gifts of the land. Just as those in ancient times find a reason to give thanks for being here another day. Do something special to honor the fact that you are still here. Celebrations and rituals are important in our spiritual walk.

It is a time to offer thanks in prayers, celebrations and gratitude to the Great Creator who is watching and filling those who care with blessings.

Spring is almost here!  Ostara, otherwise known as the Spring Equinox is coming soon! Are you ready? What are you planting in your garden this spring? Find out in my Springtime Reading.

Spring Blessings,
Cherokee Billie

A New Astrological Year Begins With the 2017 Aries Equinox: March 20 2017

A New Astrological Year Begins With the 2017 Aries Equinox: March 20 2017

Moontide Femme by Anna Briggs of Annas Breath

The Sun will enter the sign of Aries on March 20th, 2017 and take us into a brand new season of energy. The Northern Hemisphere will be celebrating the entrance of Spring and the Southern Hemisphere will welcome Autumn. The day and night will be perfectly balanced and as a result, some of us may find an equilibrium. It’s a very powerful astrological time.

When the Sun enters Aries new beginnings and energy are sparked into motion.

The Zodiac begins with the sign of Aries, which makes it the perfect place to embark upon a fresh start.  The February Eclipses closed out chapters and ignited new ones at the same time. This seasonal shift, happening here, now takes us deeper into our new beginnings. Aries is the sign that’s the pioneer and one that jumps into anything and everything.  It’s got a brave heart and doesn’t need much convincing because it’s the thrill of the unknown that drives it forward. Some of its fearless energy will be in the air helping to propel us ahead and feel the possibility in doing something different.

Astrologers have long used the first day of any season (Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter) to forecast the tone of the next three months ahead. Relationship matters are still a major focal point with Venus moving deeper into her retrograde at the point of the equinox. Our values are being questioned and realigned in the new season ahead. To find out more about the new beginnings in motion for each of us personally, read about the deeper meaning of this Venus Retrograde Cycle.

The 2017 Aries Equinox is a perfect time to set new intentions.

Use the energy at hand to breath new life into something or simply use it to appreciate all we currently have. Endings always yield new beginnings and if we pause for a moment we might be able to tap into the “something new” that lies ahead.
