Over the next two days I will be trying to catch up and get ahead on some posts. Back in April, we found out that my dad had cancer off the esophagus. Since then, he has been through chemotherapy and radiation treatments that has hopefully done away with the cancer, but has left him with part of his esophagus dead. On Monday, August 29th, he will be having surgery. The surgeons will take out the part of his esophagus, and surrounding tissues, that are dead and reattach his stomach to what is left of his esophagus. They will analyze the removed tissue to ensure all the cancer is gone.

He will be unable to swallow for 6-8 weeks and will have a feeding tube placed in his stomach. Once he has healed, he will have to go through rehab to learn how to swallow again. This is going to be…
