Overview
This powerful essential oil comes from the distilled fruits (berries) of the vitex or chaste tree. Native to the Mediterranean, uses for this perennial shrub have been mentioned throughout history and can be found in works by Pliny the Elder, Dioscorides, and in Homer’s The Iliad.
Vitex is considered a balancing herb for women. It can be included in a diffuser blend, or used topically. For topical use, it should always be diluted in a carrier at no more than 1%. Vitex is not typically used within perfumery, but can add interesting notes to a blend.

Ginseng Forest Grown Whole Plant Extract
Panax quinquefolius
Overview
We are proud to offer the first Forest Grown American Ginseng Whole Plant Extract made from certified organic and PCO Verified Forest Grown American ginseng root and organically grown and PCO Verified Forest Grown American ginseng leaves. Prepared separately, both the roots and the leaves are extracted in organic grain alcohol, hand-shaken every day for up to two months, pressed, and blended to create this synergistic whole plant extract. Our forest grown ginseng has been cultivated and cared for in its natural habitat for at least seven years before harvesting.
This extract comes from a unique partnership between Mountain Rose Herbs, United Plant Savers, the PCO Forest Grown Verification Program, and dedicated herb growers in Appalachia. Due to the decline of American ginseng and other wild forest botanicals, this program was created to encourage conservation through cultivation. This is a solution that can transform the epidemic of plant poaching into the production of high-quality, sustainable crops that meet the needs of traditional use while supporting the livelihoods of forest farmers. This groundbreaking project brings us organically grown ginseng that is nurtured in its native woodland habitat. The roots and leaves are sustainably harvested from private forests that are stewarded by farmers dedicated to preserving this important plant for the future.
Mountain Rose Herbs will donate 5% from every sale of this precious ginseng extract to the United Plant Savers. We believe that supporting this effort can change the culture of ginseng throughout Appalachia, allowing this botanical to become a valuable forest crop with sustainability as the guiding force. We thank you for supporting this important plant and project!
