Peppermint – A Scent of the Season
We all know that peppermint brings a burst of invigorating coolness to everything from cakes, candy, cookies, hot chocolate, and tea, but did you know that peppermint-flavored foods get their punch from peppermint essential oil?
Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha piperita) is steam distilled from the flowering plant. It has many culinary and pharmaceutical uses. Following is a list of benefits and uses for Peppermint Essential Oil:
- Freshens the breath with its antimicrobial properties
- Opens sinuses and nasal passages
- Provides a natural energy boost
- Reduce cravings and curbs appetite
- Reduce nausea and soothes upset stomachs
- Relieve muscle soreness
- Relieve stress
- Stop itching from bug bites and rashes
Add 4 to 5 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil to your bath to help open sinuses and nasal passages, relieve muscle soreness, and relieve stress.
Add 15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil to 1/2 ounce carrier oil, to make a massage oil. Massage the stomach area to help reduce nausea and soothe and upset stomach.
Add 3 to 5 drops to water in an Aroma Lamp, Diffuser, or Oil Burner, to get a natural energy boost, curb appetite, open sinuses and nasal passages, and relieve stress.
Dab 2 to 3 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil on bug bites or rashes to stop itching.
