Age-Old Questions
“Age is just a number,” says the well-worn adage. But is it a number you care about, or one you tend (or try) to ignore?
~~~~~~~
In my mind and in my heart, I feel like I’m eighteen. My body feels like I’m one-hundred-twenty. On good days, I tend to forget my real age. On bad days, I think about my real age and how it is not really old. Why, then, do I feel so old?
I do tend to ignore my age just like I tend to ignore all my health problems, all my aches and pains, and all my heartbreaks.
I understand. I don’t ignore my age or its accompanying problems; I try to deal with them as best I, or my doctor can. Some days I’m filled with energy. Other days, I just want to sit in my back garden and read. But, whatever, the mood, I’m glad to be alive.
About aging. Until you are 80, you are “young.” After that, you are “venerable,” and people should bow to you when you pass them. But like many other “shoulds,” this rarely happens.
I agree. My paternal grandmother is still living at 96. She gets around good and still has her wits about her. I feel like bowing to her every time I see her. 🙂
