If you could wake up tomorrow and be fluent in any language you don’t currently speak, which would it be? Why? What’s the first thing you do with your new linguistic skills?

I would love to wake up tomorrow and be fluent in German. Why? My ancestors came from Germany. The first thing I would do is arrange a trip to Germany to work on some Family History.

Ah, ja, German. I remember spending my entire 4th grade year learning German with the record player. When I first met my grandmother, I greeted her with the phrase I had practiced during the cross-country drive. Her response: “Child, I don’t know what your father told you, but I lost that language when I was five.”
