Daily Prompt: The Show Must Go On

If you were involved in a movie, would you rather be the director, the producer, or the lead performer? (Note: you can’t be the writer!).

~~~~~~~~
If I can not be the writer, I would have to be the director. I would like a chance to direct ‘The Clan of the Cave Bear’, which was a 1986 box office flop.
The Clan of the Cave Bear is an historical novel by Jean M. Auel about prehistoric times. It is the first book in the Earth’s Children book series and speculates on the possibilities of interactions between Neanderthal and modern Cro-Magnon humans.
I am a big fan of the Earth’s Children Series, written by Jean M. Auel, and feel that the movie could have been directed much better. Let it be a given, here, that I know nothing about directing and am not a critic. I am an avid reader and have pictures in my mind of how a movie, from a book, should go. I know little, if anything, about Michael Chapman, nor the screenplay writer, John Sayles. I do think Daryl Hannah did a great job as lead performer.
The first book of the Earth’s Children Series, The Clan of the Cave Bear, did not contain as much dialogue, as it did emotions and feelings. I can see how that would be hard to direct without dialogue. If I had a chance to direct the movie, I would have the main character, Ayla, speak her emotions. In my humble opinion, I think adding the spoken emotions and feelings, would have helped the film make a better box office presentation. I would also follow up with the next 5 books in the series.
  1. I really enjoyed this film, but I’ve never read the books. My husband has & he really enjoyed them. I’ll have to try & get a copy of the movie for him & see what he thinks 🙂
