Spa Treatment
A Short Story by D. B. Mauldin
Twenty-Six over-weight, out of shape, women over the age of fifty, had signed up for an on-site, two week Spa Treatment. Check-in began at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 10:00 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. the Spa Treatment began with a ninety-minute orientation that gave us an overview of our two weeks, what was expected of us, and rules and regulations. We were asked to write down our goals of the two week Spa Treatment. Then, we went to lunch.
Our lunch consisted of a Balsamic Strawberry and Spinach Salad and a Tropical Squeeze. The food was delicious, but many of us left the dining area with our stomachs grumbling for more food.
We were given an hour of free time, after lunch. Some of us walked around the grounds, enjoying the spa-luscious scenery. Some went to their bunks to rest and all of us went back to our bunks to read our days post. We were bunked in four groups of five and one group of six. We had learned in orientation that our schedules for each day would be posted on our outside walls.
My group was scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. deep massage, which felt great and left me feeling like a soft stick of butter, which was good, because I needed all the limberness I could get. My groups 3:00 p.m. class was yoga, which I enjoyed thoroughly, then we relaxed into a thirty-minute guided meditation. Four o’clock was shower time, then we all met in the conference room at 5:00 p.m., to talk about our day, and write how we felt, so far.
Six p.m. was dinner time. We all enjoyed an appetizer of Baked Tomatoes, followed by an entrée of Grilled Wild Salmon on Red Bell Pepper and Dill Sauce with Stir Fried Bok Choy. Then we all had a cleansing Cocktail. After dinner, we all went on a guided tour of the grounds of the Spa Treatment. We did some stretching exercises, before we were released at 8:00 p.m. with lights out at 10:00 p.m.
Every day classes were at different times and with members of other groups, so we all could get to know each other. Some days, I went to massage, other days I went to manicure, pedicure, mud facials, etc… We enjoyed different foods every day. Some days we worked on Body Core Exercises, and other days we worked with weights, but there was some form of yoga and meditation every day.
By the end of the first week, six women had checked-out and gone home. By the end of the second week, there was fifteen women left to graduate. On the morning of the last day, we were all given our sheets we had written our goals on, on the first day. I had written that I wanted to lose 10 pounds, so I was astounded to find, when they weighed us all, that I had lost twenty-six pounds. Granted a good bit of it was due to losing water weight, but I had a good background to keep working from.

I feel like I need a spa week or two to kick-start my butt into a healthier frame of mind and body. Since I lost my parents a few months ago, I just eat whatever I want. Not good!

Great story Debra, is it fact or fiction? I’m on a low carb diet at the moment & I feel much better for it. I’ve always fancied a week or so of spa treatment but I’ve never had the cash & the time at the same time lol 🙂

Neither have I. The story is purely fiction, but it came from my dreams, much like yours. 🙂
