Today’s Aromatherapy Tip of the Day: November 6, 2013 is Body Oils.
There is a special sacredness inherent in using essential oils directly on the body; as in a massage. Human Beings are emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual.
In clinical aromatherapy, the use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes, the choice of carrier oil can be very important to the outcome. This is not necessarily the case with subtle healing.
In Western spiritual traditions, two oils stand out as well established and loved, olive oil and almond oil, no doubt because there trees grew in the Holy Land. Olive oil is too heavy for an allover body oil; almond oil is a good option.
In aromatherapy, the words ‘carrier oil’ are interchangeable with ‘base oil’ and ‘vegetable oil’.
When making a body oil, put the essential oils into an empty bottle first, and swirl them around to allow them to act synergistically with each other; then add the carrier oil. Put the top on the bottle, turn it upside down a couple of times. Finish by gently rolling the bottle between your hands. This action not only ensures complete mixing of the oils, but energizes the blend.
