Daily Prompt: It Builds Character
by michelle w. on November 4, 2013
Tell us about a favorite character from film, theater, or literature, with whom you’d like to have a heart-to-heart. What would you talk about?
I am a big fan of Jean M. Auel’s “Earth’s Children” book series. The series includes: “The Clan of the Cave Bear”, “The Valley of Horses”, “The Mammoth Hunters”, “The Plains of Passage”, “The Shelters of Stone”, and “The Land of Painted Caves”.
The main character in the series is Ayla. An earthquake destroys Ayla’s family’s camp, leaving 5-year-old Ayla, (a Cro-Magnon girl), orphaned and homeless. Ayla has a strong sense of survival, that she carries with her throughout the series.
I would love to talk to her about how she was able to hold on to that strong sense of survival as trials upon trials were placed before her; knowing she was different in every aspect; trying so hard to fit in and finding ridicule instead of acceptance.
She goes through so much, yet still comes out stronger to the end. Yes, I would like to have a heart-to-heart talk with Ayla.
