Today’s Aromatherapy Tip of the Day: October 24, 2013 is Steam Inhalation.
STEAM INHALATION
Steam Inhalation is a method of introducing essential oils to the lungs via the nose and throat. This method can be used for colds, coughs, flu, respiratory problems, sinus congestion, and sore throats. Steam Inhalation, with essential oils, can be used once or twice daily.
Add 7 drops of one essential oil, combination of two to three different essential oils, or an essential oil blend to a bowl of near-boiling water. Lean over the bowl and cover your head with a towel to prevent the vapors from escaping.
*NOTE* Be sure to keep your eyes closed as the vapors from the essential oils can be very strong.
Inhale slowly at first, then gradually breathe deeper. Breathing through the mouth will benefit sore throat problems. Perform the Steam Inhalation for 5 to 10 minutes; depending on how congested you are and when you feel relieved of congestion, but no more than 10 minutes.
