Today’s Aromatherapy Tip of the Day: October 23, 2013 is Vaporization and Room Fresheners.

VAPORIZATION AND ROOM FRESHENERS

1 Aroma Lamps

Essential Oil Burners and Aroma Lamps are available in all sorts of shapes and sizes. It is best to choose one with a bowl that can hold a lot of water; the more water it holds, the longer its vaporizing action will last.
*CAUTION* NEVER let the water run dry, as the bowl will crack.

A tealight candle is placed in or under an Oil Burner or Aroma Lamp. The lit candle gently warms the water and oil in the bowl, which evaporates, creating the desired atmosphere.

Depending on the essential oils used, the atmosphere created can be stimulating and head-clearing, or calming and relaxing.

Essential Oil Burners or Aroma Lamps are beneficial to asthma and hayfever sufferers. The essential oils purify the air to help prevent the spread of infections.

They also make ideal room fresheners and help get rid of unpleasant odors. You can also use them as insect repellents.

*NOTE* Always keep a close eye on your oil burner or aroma lamp to ensure they do not run dry and possibly start a fire. Make sure the lamps are placed in an area where anything flammable is not close by.

For a small bowl, I generally recommend 3 to 5 drops essential oils or essential oil blend, to a bowl of water. For a large bowl, you can use 10 to 15 drops.
