Daily Prompt: What a Twist!
by michelle w. on September 9, 2013
Tell us a story — fiction or non-fiction — with a twist we can’t see coming.
Jill was very tired. She had worked twelve hour days for the past six weeks; Monday through Saturday. Jill loved her job as a Senior Accountant with the Dobson Accounting Firm.
She enjoyed the Tax Season; more hours, more days, and more money! No complaints there, she was just tired.
It was Saturday night and Jill was heading to the local Pizza Parlor to enjoy good food and good company. She was meeting some friends and co-workers there.
Jill looked stunning, even if she was tired. She was blessed with the perfect body, which required low maintenance. Her long, curly, dark brown with red highlights hair was low maintenance too. Jill wore very little make-up. She had naturally long eyelashes and piercing green eyes. She looked 25 instead of her true age of 32. Jill turned heads everywhere she went.
She was a dresser, too. Tonight she wore a body skimming, long-sleeved, modest neckline, dress of paisley print with lots of aqua marine in the print; dark brown leggings, and aqua marine knee-high boots.
Jill joined her friends and co-workers at a table already reserved for the party of twelve. They all rose to hug and kiss her. She relaxed and enjoyed herself.
Jill had been dating Ray, who was the best friend of one of her co-workers. Co-worker’s dating was taboo. Jill found most of her dates through her co-workers friends or friends of friends. She was seldom without a date.
Jill enjoyed dating, but had no interest in marriage, at this time. As everyone was leaving, Ray walked over to Jill and asked if she needed a ride home.
“No. I have my own car tonight and I’m very tired. Can we plan something for tomorrow?”
“That would be great. I’ll pick you up around 11 a.m., we will have brunch, then hike some trails at Dobson State Park. Sound good?” Ray asked.
Ray walked Jill to her car and kissed her. Ray’s kisses always sent shivers down Jill’s spine. “How I would love to take him home with me tonight, but that will have to wait,” Jill thought.
Ray broke the kiss.
“I’ll see you at 11 a.m.” he whispered in her ear.
Jill smiled up at him as she got into her car. She could still see Ray standing there watching her. She knew he would watch until she was safely on the road.
Jill arrived home safely. She headed straight for her bathroom, washed her face, brushed her teeth, and removed her clothing. She put on a pair of boxer shorts and a t-shirt.
Bill crawled into bed. He would shave in the morning.
