Daily Prompt: Can’t Drive 55

Take the third line of the last song you heard, make it your post title, and write for a maximum of 15 minutes. GO!

Only To Be With You
“It’s better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved.” I’m not sure who wrote this quote, but I have heard it often. I try to live by it, but sometimes I wonder. Especially after 16 years of longing and singing along with such songs as, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”
Certain songs can drag me back in time, take me to the places we use to go, and throw me into utter despair. Our affair lasted off and on for nearly 20 years; then one day you were gone, never to be seen or heard from again. I was torn, broken to pieces, left trying to understand.
It was ‘Crystal Meth’ that took you away. I’m left wondering if you are dead or alive; if you are homeless or in jail?
I still have that love inside me, but you are gone. Was it better to have loved you and lost, than never to have loved. It was beautiful. Love at first sight. My soul mate, my split-apart, my life. The feelings went so deep, consumed me. I can say that I have loved and lost, but my body, heart, and soul longs only to be with you.
