Daily Prompt: Standout

Daily Prompt: Standout
by michelle w. on August 15, 2013

When was the last time you really stood out in a crowd? Are you comfortable in that position, or do you wish you could fade into the woodwork?

I always stand out in a crowd and I am very uncomfortable in that position. I have written several posts where I talk about how tall I am and my social anxiety. There are times I wish I could fade into the woodwork and stay there; Forever. I usually stay away from crowds, and public in general. I feel more comfortable being with family.
My family, on both sides, are generally tall, although I used to be the tallest female, I have one cousin that grew up to be taller than me. She is around 6’6″, but she’s beautiful and comes from a generation where being tall is okay. Her dad, my uncle, is around 6’10”. I love when he comes home for a visit. I actually feel short standing next to him.
My mom and dad are 6′ and 6’2″ respectively. Most all my aunts and uncles are around 6′ or over. Several of my male cousins are very tall; 6’10” to 7′ and over. It was rumored that one of my great-great-grandfather’s was 7′. I would be fine if I could stay around family all the time, but we are scattered and get together maybe once a year.

    1. No. I did take some modeling classes when I was just out of High School, but I already had a baby and an alcoholic husband that would not work, so I ended up in a factory job for years. Missed my chance. Now, I’m old and fat. Don’t think anybody is interested in that. Thanks for the positive. πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, being short has it’s own problems, too. Most of my best friends are short. It seems that short women click with my height, or maybe we are both tired of the comments and being fun of.
The only comment I get from short women is, “I wish I had some of your height.” To which I reply, “I would gladly give it to you if I could.” πŸ™‚
