Daily Prompt: There’s No Place Like Home
by michelle w. on July 20, 2013
If you had the opportunity to live a nomadic life, traveling from place to place, would you do it? Do you need a home base? What makes a place “home” to you?
I was moved around quite a bit as a child; not the whole family, usually just my mom leaving my dad. She would load the car and stick me in, and my brother when he came along, and off we went usually to my grandparents house. We would stay there until my dad would come making his promises and talk my mom into coming back home.
A couple of times we did move closer to my grandparents, but that wouldn’t last long, and we would move back to Oneonta. My dad finally bought a house and we stayed put, until my little brother was killed. After that, we moved back close to my grandparents and stayed there until I got married.
Home, to me, is where my loved ones are, a place I can relax and be myself.
I have no desire to live a nomadic life, maybe when I was younger, but I’m settled now and work on providing a stable base of fun, happiness, and love for my husband and I, as well as our three daughters and their families. Love my grandchildren!
