May is here and flowers are blooming everywhere! Geraniums will be blooming soon, if not already in some places. Today, I want to talk about the benefits of Geranium Essential Oil.
Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)
Geranium is a shrub, of many different varieties, of scented flowers; apple, apricot, lemon, mint, orange, and nutmeg, just to name a few. Rose Geraniums and Palma Rose Geranium are the most commonly used in perfumery. Geranium has long been valued as an herb. It is native to South Africa, but Geranium Essential Oil was first produced by the French in the early nineteenth century.
Geranium Essential Oil is cultivated in China, Egypt, and Reunion. The essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the shrub. Geranium Essential Oil has a delightful, fresh, rose-like aroma. It blends well with chamomile, clary sage, frankincense, jasmine, lavender, lemon, sandalwood, and rose essential oils. It is used in Chopard’s Casmir.

Health Benefits of Geranium Essential Oil include: anti-inflammatory, calming, diuretic, sedative, and tonic. Essential Oil of Geranium works as a tonic on the kidneys, reduces inflammation, treats menopausal problems, acts as a mood adjuster, and treats anxiety and depression.
Spiritually, Geranium Essential Oil resonates with feminine energy, Mother Earth, Goddess Culture, and healing the spirit. It should always be used with great respect. Essential Oil of Geranium helps bring balance, regeneration, steadiness, and tranquility to the spirit. Geranium Essential Oil offers comfort to the inner child while helping open hearts and heal the pain of memories.
Following are some recipes you might like to try.
Tonic for the Kidneys
Mix 5 drops Geranium essential oil, 3 drops Juniper essential oil, and 2 drops Rosemary essential oil to 1 ounce of your chosen carrier oil, (Almond, Jojoba, Sesame, Olive, etc…). Add 10-15 drops of blend into your bath water, or use as a massage oil.
Relieve Menopausal Symptoms
Mix 5 drops Geranium essential oil, 3 drops Neroli essential oil, and 2 drops Lavender essential oil to 1 ounce of your chosen carrier oil, (see above). Add 10-15 drops of blend into your bath water, or use as a massage oil.
Help Calm the Psyche, Lift Depression, and Treat Anxiety
Mix 5 drops Geranium essential oil, 3 drops Grapefruit essential oil, and 2 drops Ylang-ylang essential oil to 1 ounce of your chosen carrier oil. This blend can be used in an oil burner, (3-4 drops), worn as a body perfume, (3-4 drops), placed into your bath water, (10-15 drops), and/or use as a massage oil.
