Daily Prompt: The Bizarro World

Daily Prompt: The Bizarro World
by Cheri Lucas on April 19, 2013

In the DC comics universe, a planet called “Htrae” (“Earth” spelled backwards) is populated with bizarre versions of superheroes. A Seinfeld episode made the idea of this Bizarro World popular, where the characters encountered their opposite selves.

Craft a scene in which you meet an opposite version of yourself — or a story in a bizarre, backwards world.

Meeting My Opposite by D. B. Mauldin

There she stood, all 5′ and 98 pounds of her. I had first seen her, a couple of days ago, standing in line at the corner drug store. She had a short pixie cut, you know, like Miley Cyrus. She turned around and looked right at me, as though she had felt me looking at her. I was stunned by her beauty; blonde hair, big blue eyes, and gorgeous complexion. She didn’t smile at me with her pouted lips or acknowledge me in anyway. She just went on about her business.
Here she was again, today, standing by the lamppost on the corner, looking like she didn’t have a care in the world. I was on my way down to the beach, where I could listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean and catch a little sun. It was only a couple of blocks away. I searched for a secluded spot and found one near some rocks. I sat on the rock, closed my eyes, and listened to the waves. I was just getting into a meditative state, when I felt someone sit beside me. Startled, my eyes flew open, and there she was, sitting right next to me.
“Hi,” she said, “I followed you to see where your were going.” No emotion, just matter of fact.
“My name is Jan,” she held out a hand, a small, dainty hand perfectly manicured.
“Hi. My name is Dolores,” I said taking her tiny hand into mine for a handshake.
We sat and talked until late afternoon. We promised each other to meet at a coffee shoppe the next morning to continue our conversation, before we went to work. Jan had a very outgoing personality and worked in Marketing. I preferred the quiet solitude of my writing career.
We saw each other often and soon became close friends. What is the saying? Opposites attract?
