Daily Prompt: The Transporter

Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — that transports you back to childhood.

I have lots of these, but will only tell you about the ones I love.
When I taste Pound Cake it sends me back to my maternal grandmother’s kitchen; the scent of pound cake cooking. Yum! Another taste, that takes me back to my grandmother’s kitchen, is her no-bake Fruit Cake. She passed this recipe down to me and I made it every year for Christmas. Now that I’m a diabetic, I can’t eat it and I will not make it. If anybody wants some I will give them my recipe.

I talked a little about smell in the above paragraph; the scent of pound cake cooking. Another scent that takes me back in time to when I would sit in my grandmother’s lap and/or sleep with her. The scent of Ponds Cold Cream. That is all my grandmother ever used for lotion. I use it now on my face and neck. I love the scent and memories of cuddling with my grandmother.

The Osmond Brothers, The Jackson Five, Bobby Sherman, and some Motown music takes me back to when I first had a record player. Music has always been in my life and I expect it always will.
