Describe the most satisfying meal you’ve ever eaten in glorious detail.
First of all, let me say that I’m a ‘Southern Girl’. I was raised on biscuits with gravy, potatoes, beans, and cornbread. Those are normal every day foods for most Southerner’s. The best meals came from church, ‘Dinners on the Ground’; Holidays like Easer, Thanksgiving, and Christmas; and then there were all sorts of Family Reunions during the summer months.
When I had the chance to attend one of these festivities, I would overlook all the ‘day to day’ foods and go for the ones you didn’t normally get, like: Chicken and Dressing, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Cranberry Sauce, Aunt Millie’s chicken casserole, Cousin Shirley’s vegetable casserole, Aunt Mary’s Peanut Butter Cake, Cousin Brenda’s Butterfinger Cake, etc…
My favorites were my mom’s Coconut Cake with 7-minute Icing that she would make every Easter and her homemade Red Velvet Cake that she would make for Christmas.
I don’t think I ever ate a restaurant meal that was as good as the old-fashioned ‘pot luck’ meals from my younger days. We still have some of the Family Reunions and Holidays, but I’m very limited to what I can eat now. My favorite part of Reunions and Holidays now are being with the grandchildren and watching them get to know and play with their cousins, not the food.

this is about the 3rd time today I’ve heard of “pot luck” I am in the UK and I read that as if you go somewhere and you don’t know what your getting and eat what you get, so its pot luck, am I right in my assumption?

You’re correct. Everybody brings a dish of something and we all share. 🙂

sounds good, we do that when we have BBQs, everyone takes a bit of something to cook up.
