Daily Prompt: Nightmares

Describe the last nightmare you remember having. What do you think it meant?

I haven’t had a nightmare in a long, long, long time. In fact, I don’t remember having but one nightmare in my life, and this one repeated itself fairly often from my childhood into my 30’s.

You can read about it here:

What did it mean?

I think it had something to do with the pressure I was under. My mother was a sickly woman. She was in and out of the bed and hospital for miscarriages and her nerves.

From a very early age, I was the mother and she was the daughter. I built a very protective screen around her. I was her protector for 40+ years. She has been through a lot; we have been through a lot. She gathered her own strength around her; beginning when I was around 40, and she is still fairly strong today. But the earlier years were rough.

I think my recurring nightmare meant that I wanted her to take care of me. I was a little girl, lost and lonely, on the rooftop. The snakes were coming after me; sliding up the outside walls and onto the roof with me, but mama wouldn’t help me; she wouldn’t unlock the door and let me inside.
