What’s the most surreal experience you’ve ever had?
The first grandparent I lost was my maternal grandmother. She passed away in 1995. We were always very close. I was not taking it well.
I was working 3rd shift at the time and slept during the day until my youngest daughter arrived home on the school bus. My daughter would come into my bedroom and wake me up so we could spend some time together before I had to go back to work. That was our routine for years.
One day, a couple of weeks after the passing of my grandmother, I was sleeping. My grandmother came into my bedroom and was standing beside me, just looking at me. When I opened my eyes, smiled, and reached for her hand, she sat down beside me on the bed. She stroked my hair as we talked. We talked a long time. I don’t remember most of it, but I do remember her saying that everything was fine. She was fine and I shouldn’t worry so. We talked on some more and then she stood up beside my bed again. She said, “I must go now. Rachel is home and she must not see me.”
My bedroom door opened and there was my daughter, all smiling, and ready to talk with her mama. I looked at the space beside my bed, but my grandmother was gone.

It was, seeker, it was. I felt at peace after that.

I love stories like this one. You are so fortunate. I wish I had an experience like this to share with the world. Maybe some day. 🙂

There are a couple people who I wish would visit me – I’m sure they are okay, I just wish I could talk with them one last time; especially now that I’m a little older, perhaps understand them better, and could learn more from them than I could when they were alive.

Haven’t had a surreal moment yet, but this one was wonderful.

I don’t know why they come to some and not others.
