Most of us have heard the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” What do you think is actually the best thing since sliced bread?
Oh my goodness! I can still remember when we made our own bread and sliced it ourselves! Well, I’m not quite that old and sliced bread was available, but homemade bread was much better. I can appreciate the convenience of sliced bread and all the conveniences that have come along since 1960. We’ve come a long way, baby!
I spent a lot of time at my maternal and paternal grandparents homes while growing up. I would spends weeks with each one during the summers. They all still lived in the country at that time and farmed. I remember washing clothes in old wringer washers and hanging them on a line to dry. http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4672083495553310&pid=15.1
I remember cooking on a wood stove. http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4763351533618531&pid=15.1
I remember going to the restroom during the day in this http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4793051218643306&pid=15.1 and at night in an old empty coffee canister.
I think the indoor toilet is the best thing since sliced bread! http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4891152555247867&pid=15.1

I make our bread and prefer to slice it as needed. I think the best thing along those lines now might be the dishwasher.

I love my dishwasher, but I think I love my indoor bathroom facilities much better. 🙂

Agree…having spent a few winters on a farm in Ontario back in the 50s…indoor plumbing.

Just wondering, did we have indoor toilets before we had sliced bread?

Agreed. 🙂 You know what I’m talking about.

People in the city did, but the folks living in the country did not until around the late 70’s to early 80’s. Hard to believe isn’t it.

An outdoor toilet in the winter is not an enjoyable experience
