I think that under the circumstances, Dudley’s actions were defensible. What I would have done in the same circumstances, I cannot say. I would like to say that I would perish first rather than kill a person, but I have never been shipwrecked or faced any similar incidences. Starvation and dehydration could alter one’s thinking. Dudley’s circumstances were indeed dire. I’m just not sure how I would react under the same circumstances.

You are right. I don’t think anyone could know how they react under that kind of stress unless they’ve been there.

I didn’t even think of that. They probably didn’t have any fishing gear with them. Good question.
